today is the one year anniversary of the finalization of my divorce.
my ex, jinx, is living happily with her high school sweetheart in seattle.  we had a nice conversation on what would have been our ninth wedding anniversary, a few weeks back.  she’s gotten a promotion at work.  she’s pursuing her interests.  i’m happy for her.

and really glad that she and i have been able to walk away from 8 years of marriage with warm feelings for each other.  seems like a rarity these days.
though it has been a difficult year in many ways, it has been a year about finding out more about who i actually am, what i want to do with this gift of a life, and what i need in a partner.  still figuring it all out, but thanks to perseverance and the support of some of the most wonderful peeps on the planet, i’ve separated quite a bit of wheat from the chaff.  and that feels great. not having hollywood’s version of a divorce to contend with has made a substantial difference in my process.
so, a great big kiss to jinx.  thank you for being in my life.

home today feeling like crap.  ear hurts.  throat swollen. intermittent coughing.  you know the drill.  and yet in an exhibitionist reflective mood.

i got the berkeley cottage i was hoping to get.  i move out in three weeks.  it is a separate two-story carriage house structure, back in the garden: small bedroom, bath, kitchen upstairs; living room/workspace downstairs.  the space will take some adapting to, but it felt good. incense cottage studio’s progeny in the yippie enclave.
it will be quieter (yes). i will finally be living alone (yes). my shit, my space, my dealio. the commute increase sucks, but i’ve been successfully living it half the week anyway (word).

this will mean a new, though not entirely unfamiliar, scene and nexus. alas, greater distance from most of my friends and the city activities i will likely be interested in.  i am definitely going to look into berkeley carshare, so i have an option of accessing a vehicle.  (on that note, i’ve had some great roadtrips with lemur over the last several months; gotten to enjoy some driving on the open road again.) but, being so close to bart will make my usual city haunts just as accessible.
it’s bittersweet.  i’m excited at the direction this will facilitate, but having grown fond of my present lifestyle, even with all of its’ complications, it is with some sadness that i hand this off.  living here with combi and dbug has been a blast.  they have been great roommates and friends.  i’ve had lots of freedom to do whatever the fuck i have wanted to do.  i could not have asked for a better perch on which to downshift from my divorce.
the increase in distance from friends sucks, but i’m in the city so much for work anyway, it is just as easy for me to hang out here when i want to. between hoop pain and bah i see my friends pretty regularly.  i still plan on participating in both.  i’ll have to think of a clever name for my social commute.
